TOTA SINGH EXTENDS GREETINGS TO NRI PUNJABI ON PRAVASI BHARTIYA DIWAS

Jathedar Tota Singh Minister for NRIs Affairs, Punjab today extended hearties greetings to the Punjabi Diaspora on the occasion of Non-Resident Indian Day (Pravasi Bharatiya Divas). He said that it is matter of great pride for Punjabi with their sheer dedication and hard work has scaled new heights in every sphere all over the world.   The Minister while enumerating the various initiatives of the Punjab Government undertaken for the welfare of the NRIs said that 10% reservation is being given for NRIs in allocation of Residential and Industrial plots. To recognise NRI status of Punjabi NRIs government is also providing them NRI Priviledge Card for various government and non-government facilities like discount/ reservation on various Shops, Malls, Hospitals, Schools, Jewellary Shops. Now NRIs can easily get Mobile Sim Card while on visit to India. Punjab government is also providing the accreditation to NRIs Journalists. He said that Fast Track Revenue Courts has been set up for speedy disposal of NRIs cases in respect of Revenue, the power of Assistant Collection of the first grade have been conferred to all the District Revenue Officers in the State in their respective districts to decide the cases. Likewise Judicial Court for NRIs has been made functional at Jalandhar similar courts in other districts would also be set up soon.Jathedar Tota Singh further said that the most noble initiative by the Punjab Government has been the establishment of 15 exclusive NRI Police Station in districts of Amritsar, Bhatinda, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar (Rural & City), Kapurthala, Ludhiana(Rural & City), Moga, S.A.S Nagar(Mohali), Patiala, Sangrur and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. To help NRI’s in getting their Urban properties evicted in an easy and quick manner amendments have been made in Punjab Urban Rent Control Act for eviction of multiple properties for multiple times.He said that now NRIs can get their multiple properties vacated from tenants under the Punjab Rent Act, 1995 (as amended by the Punjab Rent (Amendment) Act, 2013 on April 10, 2013. Punjab government also amended Act under the new Punjab Security of Land tenures (Amendment) Act, 2013 and the PEPSU tenancy and Agricultural lands (Amendment) Act,2013, and now NRIs can get their ancestral agricultural property and property purchased by NRIs within five years vacated from tenants.  The Minister said that other Acts enacted by the Punjab government to safeguard the interest of NRI Punjabis has been to save Punjabi youth from migration related frauds and harassment, the prevention of Human Trafficking/ Smuggling Act has been enacted (Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act,2012 and Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Rules,2013). To safeguard NRIs and daughters of Punjab from marriage related frauds, the compulsory Marriage registration Act has been enacted.( Punjab Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act,2012; Punjab Compulsory Registration of Marriages rules, 2013). To facilitate and expedite the registration of NRI marriages the power of marriage registration has been given to Deputy Commissioners, District Revenue Offficers, Tehsildars and Naib Tehildars. To facilitate quick disposal of  power of attorney made by NRIs, the powers for stamping/embossing of power of attorneys has been given to Deputy Commissioners for properties falling under that district; to Divisional Commissioners for properties falling within that division; and to Financial Commissioner Revenue for propertied falling under more than one division. Minister said that to resolve the grievance of the NRIs at the spot Sangat Darshan programmes have also been conducted and a dedicated online Web Portal www.nripunjab.gov.in has already been launched to address all the NRI grievances.
