UT Administrator and Governor Punjab HE VP Singh Badnore presided over a session on ‘Making Chandigarh an Aspirational Destination’ organised by Confederation of Indian Industry at CII Headquarters here today. The Governor Shri VP Singh Badnore also launched the Chandigarh Tricity Chapter of CII’s Indian Women Network (IWN) with Dr Reetinder Mohan as its first Chairperson on the occasion.
Addressing the session on Making Chandigarh an aspirational destination, UT Administrator and Governor Punjab VP Badnoresaid, “We have to create more for all sections of society for holistic development of the city as we aspire to make Chandigarh a Smart City. It means to have more for physically challenged and also for the elderly. We need a city which caters to everyone’s hobbies and interests. As a Smart City Chandigarh administration must focus on healthcare and education. A Smart City also means a safer city free from crime and accidents. The UT Administration has launched a pilot project in two schools where children are free from home work and can thus spend all their time with their parents after school. We welcome suggestions from CII to go ahead with the goal of achieving holistic development of the city.”
Mrs Rumjhum Chatterjee, Chairperson, CII Northern Region, said, “The availability of a large number of motivated and talented people who are ready to take up new roles and responsibilities is another biggest advantage that city provides. The city has a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem which has immense opportunity to encourage start-ups. Therefore, CII’s focus will be to formulate Start-ups Policy. It will not only open up more avenues of employment but the innovative ideas will go a long way in bringing in a widespread positive and sustainable impact on the economy.CII would like to work with the City Administration on this important and emerging area. The engagement may cover Policy Framework to create right ecosystem for promotion of start-ups; creation of incubation centres; fostering linkages between academia,R&D and industry to commercialize the technologies and so on and so forth,” she added.
Immediate Past Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council, Dr Dinesh Dua, said, “Chandigarh stands true on all criteria of a modern progressive city with its modern infrastructure, best of amenities for its citizens and now CII and UT Administration are working together to convert it into a Smart City.”Former MP Satya Pal Jain, BJP Chief Chandigarh Sanjay Tandon, , UT Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal, Adviser to the Governor Parimal Rai, Mayor Asha Kumari Jaswal, British Deputy High Commissioner, David Lelliot, were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
Dr Reetinder Mohan becomes first Chairwoman of IWN Chandigarh Tricity Chapter:The Governor Shri VP Singh Badnore also launched the Chandigarh Tricity Chapter of CII’s Indian Women Network (IWN) with Dr Reetinder Mohan as its first Chairperson on the occasion.Dr Reetinder Mohan, the first Chairwoman of Indian Women Network, Chandigarh Tricity Chapter is a doctorate and former Principal, Government College, Ropar, Punjab. She is also a trainer, counsellor and a resource person. She firmly believes that every Individual is a powerhouse within. She said the IWN aspires to bring together women throughout their careers to empower them; engage with them and further enable them to rise to the best of their capabilities through training, mentoring and the creation of an associative model that all professional women can benefit from. The Network works with women at different stages of their career, for working women, for entrepreneurs and for women who would like to get back to their career, post their sabbatical. IWN has 1,700 members throughout India, she said.
Rohit Grover takes over as CII Chandigarh Council chairman: Sofi Zahoor, Sr Director, Quark India becomes Vice-Chairman of CII Chandigarh Council. Mr Rohit Grover, Director-Commercial, JREW Group was elected as the new Chairman of CII Chandigarh Council. Mr Rohit Grover is an alumni of Punjab University, Chandigarh having passed out his graduation in Commerce & Masters in Finance. He started his career as Management trainee with a reputed private sector Bank before inheriting the business of Steel Fabrication and Machining.
Mr Sofi Zahoor, the new Vice-Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council, is Senior Director India: HR & Operations, QuarkXpress Publishing R&D (India) Pvt Ltd India for India. Sofi Zahoor has 14 years of experience with Quark and several years in driving talent acquisition and professional development programs, resulting in talent upgrades of the workforce. He has played key role in conducting and implementing an organizational re-design to capitalise on strategic opportunities.
