CHANDIGARH CRIME BRANCH BUSTED RACKET OF SNATCHERS, AUTO LIFTERS, 3 ARRESTED WITH 21 GOLD CHAINS

 During further investigation, total 21 gold chains and 02 stolen two-wheelers have been recovered at their instance which led to solving of 24 cases (21 gold chain + 03 two-wheelers) 

There was a spurt increase in the incidents of two wheeler theft & snatching in the City which prompted the Chandigarh Police to have a brain-storming session. As per the briefings given by the senior officers, a special campaign was organized to target the auto lifters & snatchers. In this context, Crime Branch has developed an input that an interstate gang belongs to Uttar Pradesh is active in the area of tricity, especially in UT/Chandigarh for committing the incidents of vehicle thefts and snatchings from the last 8/9 months. Upon this, different teams of Anti Auto Theft Cell of Crime Branch under the close supervision of Sh. Pawan Kumar, DSP/Crime were deputed. On 07.03.2017, on a tip of, a team of Anti Auto Cell headed by Inspector Gurmukh Singh consisting SI Ashok Kumar, HC Kanwar Pal and other officials laid a naka under over bridge of  Sector 11/15 dividing road and during checking, the team apprehended two persons namely Ashok Kumar @ Bellu @ Punjabi  s/o Jaipal r/o Village-Biralian, PS-Jhinjhana, District-Shamli, UP and Rajesh Kumar s/o Janardhan r/o Village-Khanpur Kalan, PS-Jhinjhana, District-Shamli, UP alongwith a Motor Cycle bearing registration No. HR-05-AD-3271, make- Splender while they were coming from Sector-15, Chandigarh. On further checking, the registration number of the said Motor Cycle found fake and on further verification the same is found stolen from Karnal in case FIR No. 654 dated 15.08.2016 u/s 379 IPC, PS-Civil Lines, Karnal, Haryana.  The actual registration number of this motorcycle is HR-05-AC-0136. In this regard, a case FIR No. 45 dated 07.03.2017 u/s 471, 473. 474 & 411 IPC was registered in Police Station-Sector-11, Chandigarh. During the interrogation, both the accused have disclosed that they have had snatched number of gold chains and also stolen two-wheelers in Chandigarh as well as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and other parts of India. On 08.03.2017, upon their disclosure statement, both were produced before the Hon’ble Court and obtained 03 days police remand for further investigation. One of their co-accused namely Dev Kohli @ Hunny s/o Jai Narayan Kohli r/o Village-Alaudeenpur, PS-JhinJhana, District-Shamli (UP) was also arrested on 10.03.2017. After the recovery of some gold chains and stolen vehicles on their instance, they were again produced before the Hon’ble Court on 12.03.2017 and obtained further police remand upto 15.03.2017.

During further investigation, total 21 gold chains and 02 stolen two-wheelers have been recovered at their instance which led to solving of 24 cases (21 gold chain + 03 two-wheelers) registered with different police stations of the city. The detail of these cases is as under:-

Modus Operandi:   All three accused belongs to Bawaria gang of Distt Shamli (UP) and used to commit crime in all over India. They are professional criminals and having past criminal record in Haryana & Delhi. 

Accused Ashok Kumar is involved in more than 40 cases in Delhi, 12 in Gurgaon and declared Proclaimed Offender in some of the cases.  They are also involved at other places like Ludhiana, Sonipat, Muzaffar Nagar, Panchkula, Mohali and also involved with their associates Chennai, Bangluru and many more places in India.  Before proceeding to Chandigarh, first they pay obeisance before their spiritual deity to be successful in their activities.  Thereafter, they all switched-off their mobiles and used to travel in boats from their villages to cross Yamuna River to avoid main roads and to hide their identifications from Haryana and UP Police. Thereafter, they entered in the tricity and after committing snatchings and vehicle theft, sometimes, they stayed in the rented accommodations in the different locations of the tricity.  After committing 5/6 incidents, they return to their villages and a gap of 4/5 days, they again adopt the same modus-operandi. In Chandigarh, they specially struck the Southern parts of the City in order to leave the city after committing the crime.

They used to target specially the pedestrian ladies wearing gold chains and by making excuse of asking the location of a particular place, they convert the concentration of that ladies and then suddenly get close to the target to snatch their gold chains and flee on Motorcycle after snatching the gold chains.  Thereafter, they disposed-off the snatched gold chains to the local jeweler namely Chattar Singh who is presently lodged in Ambala Jail.  His Production Warrant has been obtained for 15.03.2017.  After the arrest of local jeweler Chattar Singh, they were searching for new receiver for disposing-off the snatched chains but failing which, they hide these chains at different places.  They are alcoholic and drug addicts and spent the earned money by illegal means on these activities and to fulfill their other day-to-day demands  

Police said, 32 years old Kingpin Ashok Kumar @ Bellu @ Punjab , belongs to Village Brialon, PS-Jhinjana, Distt Shamli  in SaharanpurDistt. in UP,  is unemployed,  Rajesh Kumar (23)Village Khanpur Kalan, PS-Jhinjana, Distt Shamli (UP) and third accused 25 years old Dev Kohli @ Hunny belongs to Village Alaudeen Pur, PD Jhinjana, Distt Shamli (UP)
