Panjab University Bicycle Lovers has organised its 3rd rally, which turned into a huge rush of cycle lovers. The theme for this years' rally was'Take a Break, Take a Ride'. These students of Panjab University believe that the growing levels of pollution are a cause of concern for everyone. In this scenario, cycling stands out as an environment-friendly alternative and also provides recreation. The group has been active for the last 3 years and has around 2000 followers on Facebook.
They have conducted as many as 100 weekly rides and have collaborated with Athletes, Doctors, Scientists, Stand-up Comedians etc. In the first two editions of their annual rally, almost 400 and 500 students, professors and non-teaching staff participated respectively. This year also a large number of people even from outside PU have joined. The rally has started from student center, PU and passed through various departments and hostels. Honourable DSW, Mr. E.Nahar has flagged off the rally.
On this occasion, members of the bicycle lovers handed over a memorandum to the DSW, demanding cycle parkings for hostels and departments, and also demanded that 10 to 15 cycles should be kept in every hostels for students which can be issued to them by creating some mechanism. Students from Ankur school who are our next generation have also fully participated in this rally. We are very hopeful that one day the entire campus will be cycle receptive and the students will give due importance to environment by cycling around the campus, said Gurjinder Mogi, founder member of the group. Other members Dr. Rakesh Mohindra, Munish khannagwal, Aman panta, Rahul rantnam, Ravinder, Irina, Tejveer,Khusboo and Kamal have organised the whole event.
