ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION NEEDS TO BE RESPECTED AS A MATTER CHOICE: CJ S.J.VAZIFDAR

Justice S.J.Mukhopadya, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairman National Company Law Appellate Tribunal chaired the final Session. Peace is the need of the hour, he stated and the future is in the hands of the Mediators. He concluded by saying that the future of India lies in ADR and this system shall run parallel to the adjudicatory process, akin to two parallel railway lines running alongside in order to reach the same destination.

The Global Pound Conference came to rapturous culmination today on 14th May, 2017 at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector 43. The three day international event had participants from all around the world, voting on the challenges of Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms. The invigorating Sessions threw light on the impending issues and channelized a way forward for the success of ADR in the near future.

Chief Justice S.J.Vazifdar, Punjab and Haryana High Court concluded the event with a valedictory speech. He stressed on the fact that Alternative Dispute Resolution needs to be respected as a matter of choice and not compulsion. He also highlighted the role of the Bar by stating that the options for ADR need to come from the Bar and the Judiciary shall propel it further to make it the more attractive option for clients and the public at large. He concluded by stating that ADR is a matter of choice and not a recourse to reduce the burden of judiciary with advantages at large that are not only quantitative but also qualitative.
The Global Pound Conference was brought to Chandigarh with a view to promote Chandigarh as a preferred destination for Arbitration and Mediation. The event was organized under the Chairmanship of Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court alongside, Justice Mahesh Grover, Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice A.B.Chaudhari, Justice Ajay Tewari, Justice G.S. Sandhawalia, Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court. It was enriching experience for all the participants namely Judges from different High Courts infact some of them were also panelists, adjudicators, Mediators, Advocates. When asked Justice Suryakant said that such conference leave its everlasting imprint on the minds of all who attend it.
