]The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, today launched the e-textbook portal of the Haryana School Education Board in Bhiwani with the click of the mouse. In all, 26 text-books of classes IX to XII have been uploaded on the e-portal. These include 11 books of class IX, nine books of class X, and three books each of classes XI and XII. Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, congratulated the Haryana School Education Board, Bhiwani, for uploading the textbooks on e-portal for the benefit and convenience of students. He said that the Board had also been at the forefront of implementing   e-locker facility. This initiative is an important step towards realizing the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi’s dream of Digital India. An electronic textbook is also known as e-textbook, digital textbook or online textbook, he added. The Chief Minister said books in printed form could be heavy to lift. The students find it cumbersome to carry dozens of textbooks to the school. On the other hand, digital textbooks could be taken on a small laptop or e-reader.

e-textbook provides the facility to search any information in no time. There is no need to search any specific paragraph or index pages. Apart from this, notes of specific words or paragraphs of maximum e-reader books could also be taken through this system. This would help the students to make clear notes from their digital textbooks.

The e-textbooks could be downloaded instantly and there is no need to wait for long for their publication, delivery or distribution. Through the highlighting function, it becomes easy for the students to mark important parts of e-textbooks for easy study later. Similarly, through the copy and paste function, the students could segregate different important parts of textbooks and utilize them.

The Chief Minister said that e-textbooks could be easily converted into audio files. The digital textbooks are more economical than the traditional textbooks. Apart from this, e-textbooks are more conducive to environment, he added.
