CAPTAIN AMARINDER FELICITATES FOUR PUNJABI ORIGIN CANDIDATES FOR VICTORY IN BRITISH POLLS

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has congratulated the four candidates of Punjabi origin, along with eight other candidates of Indian origin, elected to the British House of Commons. Describing their victory as the dawn of a new era, the Chief Minister, in his congratulatory message, said these leaders had scripted a new success story. The victory of first female Sikh MP Ms. Preet Kaur Gill and first turbaned Sikh Mr. Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi in Englan,d along with two other MPs of Punjabi origin Mr. Virender Sharma and Ms. Seema Malhotra, has endorsed the indomitable spirit of Punjabis, said the Chief Minister, lauding their hard work and honesty, which had facilitated their success. Captain Amarinder expressed the confidence that these newly elected Punjabi MPs would play a significant role in the overall development of their native state along with that of England.  The Chief Minister also hoped that these newly elected MPs would efficiently raise the issues concerning the people of Punjab at an appropriate forum to attract the global attention, if needed.

These Punjabis have been elected along with eight other MPs of Indian origin including Ms. Priti Patel, Mr. Alok Sharma, Mr. Shailesh Vara, Mr. Rishi Sunak, Ms. Suella Fernandes, Mr. Keith Vaz, Ms. Valerie Vaz and Ms. Lisa Nandy. With record 12 Indian-origin MPs, the new Parliament have 5 MPs from Conservative Party and 7 from Labour Party.

Meanwhile, Captain Amarinder Singh also congratulated the Punjabis settled in England for reposing overwhelming response in the democratic process by taking part in the concluded general elections.
