CBI COURT SENTENCED 20 YEARS RIGOUROUS IMPRISONMENT, 30 LACS FINE TO RAM RAHEEM ON RAPING SADHWIES,

CBI Special court Judge in Sunaria near Rohtak on Monday sentenced rapist self styled Baba  Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 20 years in prison and find of Rs. 30 Lacs (15-15 lacs in both cases) for the rape of two women followers in 2002, CBI Special Court Judge of Panchkula Mr. Jagdish Singh flew by helicopter to conduct court at a prison in Rohtak. The 50-year-old chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect sat on the floor and wept as he was pronounced sentenced. Judge Jagdeesh Singh delivered sentence at the Rohtak prison to prevent a repeat of Friday's violence, when thousands of his supporters set fire to cars and clashed with security forces in violence that began outside the court in the town of Panchkula and spread to other places. 

Earlier Ram Rahim's followers went on a deadly rampage after he was convicted on Friday in Panchkula. At least 38 people died and over 200 were injured in the violence. There were no reports of violence after Ram Rahim was sentenced on Monday. Before the verdict the Police, para military force cordoned off the area of the court to avoid any untoward incident.

Before the court the lawyer for the two women who accused Ram Rahim of raping them 15 years ago, has said he seeks a life term for Ram Rahim and investigators to probe dozens more alleged cases of abuse. The CBI has asked the court to consider a longer prison term for the Dera chief and will press other charges against him, sources said.  

"Mujhe maaf kar do (Please forgive me)," said Ram Rahim as he broke down in the special court . His lawyers, who pleaded for a lighter sentence in view of what they called his humanitarian work, have said they will appeal in a higher court. The Dera chief after medical examination provided a prison uniform with No. 1997. Since Friday, when he was flown to Rohtak in a luxury helicopter, Ram Rahim occupied a special cell and was given bottled water and was allowed an assistant so called adopted daughter Honepreet , an actor, amid massive criticism.

Before the decision the security was tighened to Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar, who has called for an emergency meeting with top ministers, bureaucrats and police officers at his home in Chandigarh and has appealed for peace. 

On Monday thousands of paramilitary troops and anti-riot police blocked all roads near the Rohtak prison. The Army was on stand by. Residents were warned to stay indoors and large gatherings were banned in Rohtak. All schools and colleges in Haryana were closed today. Senior members of Ram Rahim's Dera Sacha Sauda sect were placed under detention as a precautionary measure. Over the weekend, more than 100 branches of the sect were sanitised and sealed across Haryana. Petrol cans and sticks were found stockpiled.

The police in Sirsa, where Ram Rahim's about 800 acre main Dera is located n Sirsa, have been urging about 1,000 devotees to leave the dera. The followers still seems Ram Rahim is innocen saying, our father can nevery do any sin.

Meanwhile Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) followers allegedly set two cars on fire near the sect headquarters on the outskirts of Sirsa town on Monday, just minutes before its chief was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a rape case.Security forces rushed to Phulkan village to control the situation.Security deployment, including Army and para-military forces, continued around the two campuses of the sect near Sirsa and curfew continued in affected areas of the district on Monday.“We are in control of the situation. We have shown restraint so far. Some Dera followers are still present inside the sect headquarters,” V. Umashankar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, told media here.He said that a couple of thousand Dera followers were still inside the sect campus. Rape convict DSS chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was on Monday sentenced to 10 years in jail for the rape and criminal intimidation of two female disciples.

In the meantime Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal on Monday welcomed the 10-year jail term handed out by a CBI court to rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and said even death penalty was less in his case. “Finally punished for his crime. Though his crime is so heinous, even death penalty is less for him,” Maliwal tweeted.

WHAT CBI RELEASE SAID: 

Victim- A For offence u/s 376 of IPC Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 years along with fine of Rs.15.00 lakh (Out of which Rs. 14.00 lakh is to be paid to Victim-A as compensation). In case of default in payment of fine, further RI of 2 years.

For offence u/s 506 of IPC Rigorous Imprisonment for 2 years along with fine of Rs. 10,000/-, In case of default in payment of fine, further RI of 3 months.

Victim- B For offence u/s 376 of IPC Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 years along with fine of Rs.15.00 lakh (Out of which Rs. 14.00 lakh is to be paid to Victim-B as compensation). In case of default in payment of fine, further RI of 2 years.

For offence u/s 506 of IPC Rigorous Imprisonment for 2 years along with fine of Rs. 10,000/-, In case of default in payment of fine, further RI of 3 months.

Both these sentences in respect of Victim-A and Victim-B to run consecutively i.e. the sentence with reference to Victim-B will start after the sentence with reference to Victim-A has been completed. Thus, the total sentence will run for 20 years Rigorous Imprisonment and total fine will be of Rs. 30,20,000/-.

CBI had registered a case on 12.12.2002 u/s 376, 506 & 509 of IPC on the orders dated 24.9.2002 of the Hon’ble High Court of Punjab & Haryana at Chandigarh passed in Crl. Misc. No. 26994-M of 2002 – Court on its Own Motion Vs. State directing CBI to investigate the alleged sexual exploitation of Sadhvis at Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa by Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the Head of Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa.

After thorough investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet against accused Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh u/s 376 & 506 of IPC on 30.07.2007. Charges were framed against the accused on 6.9.2008. During trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses. The accused was also examined. Thereafter, one witness was examined as a Court Witness on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The Defence examined 37 witnesses. The final arguments were concluded on 17.08.2017.
