Haryana Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki honoured renowned social worker Dr Sarojini Agarwal with prestigious Neerja Bhanot Pan Am award for this year at a programme organized at PHD Chamber of Commerce here today. Dr Sarojini has not only brought up 800 destitute girls in her Lucknow based institute ‘Manisha Mandir” but also made them self-reliant by providing them education.

It may be recalled that Neerja Bhanot was an Air hostess in Pan Am Airlines in Mumbai. She was shot dead by the terrorists on September 5, 1986 after she courageously saved scores of passengers of the Pan Am flight 73 which was on its way from Mumbai to New York and hijacked in Karachi.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Solanki said that to dedicate their lives for others is the culture of our country and our daughter Neerja had taken this culture further ahead by sacrificing her life while saving the people from the terrorists. He said that not only the country but the whole humanity is proud of her.

While lauding the efforts of Dr Sarojini Agarwal, Prof Solanki said that after the demise of her eight years daughter, she saw the reflection of her daughter in every other girl and set up ‘Manisha Mandir” where she changed the lives of 800 girls by providing them education. Dr Sarojini Agarwal is such a mother who is a role model for the entire society, he added.

Dr Sarojini Agarwal thanked the Neerja Bhanot Pan Am Trust for this award and said that daughter is the foundation of this universe. While sympathizing with the family members of Neerja Bhanot, she said that she could very well understand their grief as she has lost her daughter.
