CHANDIGARH POLICE ORGANISES AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON “EXTENT AND PATTERN OF SUBSTANCE ( DRUG) ABUSE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES ”

Awareness Programme on “ Extent and Pattern of Substance ( Drug) Abuse and its Consequences ” was organized in collaboration with Deptt. of Psychiatry, GMCH-32, Chandigarh in Recruit Training Centre(RTC) , Sector-26, Chandigarh under the guidance of Shri Tajender Singh Luthra, I.P.S., D.G.P., U.T., Chandigarh and under the supervision of Sh. Ravi Kumar, I.P.S., S.P./ Operations & Training. 95 police officers (Inspector, Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors and Constables) have attended this programme. 

 During this programme , Dr. Ajeet Sidana , Associate Professor Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh delivered lecture to the participants in which he explained that Narcotics Drugs are dangerous drugs, because once a person becomes addicted to drugs, he not only has a desire for the drug that keeps returning but also requires higher and higher dose of drug each time. Narcotic drugs damage the nervous system and have adverse effects on vision, hearing and the cardiovascular system. Overdoses of Narcotic drugs can cause death. Drug addicts have poor social relations and are sometimes responsible for many unlawful activities and commit crimes to get money for purchasing drugs which are available at very high prices.

The objective of this programme was to create awareness among the police personnel on Drug Abuse and Harmful effects of Drugs in society and how to overcome from these social evils.
