Chandigarh Press Club condemns the threat by Punjab Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh to a Senior Journalist Sukhdeep Kaur of Hindustan Times on September 26, 2017.

Mr. Birender Rawat Secretary General of the Club, said while performing her professional duty, she duly took the version of the Chief Secretary on a story. Mr. Karan Avtar Singh later called up her again to give a different version and instead of telling her to take only the new version, he threatened her – ‘I will get you sacked if you write anything else’.

Mr. Rawat said, this kind of behavior is highly condemnable and amounts to suppressing the freedom of press and also undermines the dignity of a journalist.
