BSF-IAF Joint Women Camel Expedition-2017 was flagged-off from IAF Station Uttarlai (Barmer-Raj) on 15 Aug 2017 Sh. Amra Ram Choudhary, Hon’ble, Minister of Revenue, Rajasthan Govt in the presence of Shri Kamal Nayan Choubey, IPS, SDG, BSF, Western Command (CHG). The contingent of BSF-IAF Joint Women Camel Expedition- 2017 reached at JCP Attari (Amritsar) on 02 Oct 2017, after covering a total distance of approx. 1368 Kms and passing through various border villages and towns of Gujarat (approx. 443 Kms), Rajasthan (approx. 609 Kms) and Punjab (approx. 316 Kms).

Mr. R.S.Kataria, DIG, BSF, Panjab Frontier while giving details said, the prime aim of this expedition was to promote awareness regarding the campaign “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”, “Gender Equality” and “Women Empowerment” among border population who are relatively backward and conservative. This expedition was comprises of total 20 women representatives of both BSF and IAF. The 11 Members contingent of BSF was led by Miss Tanushree Pareek, AC, (the first lady officer in BSF), whereas SQN LDR Anioushka Lomas was leading the 09 Members of IAF contingent.

The Joint BSF-IAF Camel Expedition- 2017 entered in Punjab on 23 Sept 2017 at Border Out Post Nejeke, Sector BSF Abohar, where it was accorded grand reception. Further, this Joint BSF - IAF Camel Expedition- 2017 covered approx. 316 Kms and passed through border areas as well as towns of Sector Abohar, Ferozepur and Amritsar before culminating at JCP Attari, Amritsar on 2nd Oct 2017 where a gala closing ceremony was organized. Ms Nirmal Milkha Singh, Former Captain, Indian Women’s Volleyball Team has graced the occasion with her esteemed presence as Chief Guest and Ms Heena Sidhu, Arjuna Awardee & Mr Ronak Pandit, Indian Sports Shooters as Guests of Honour at the Closing Ceremony of Joint BSF-IAF Camel Expedition- 2017. Shri Mukul Goel, IPS, IG, Punjab Ftr and other senior Officers of BSF were also present during the ceremony.

The participants of Joint BSF-IAF Camel Expedition- 2017 were overwhelmed with the tremendous response and affection extended by local population enroute. The expedition is aimed to build the positive image of BSF and to promote the spirit of adventure and enterprise among the population particularly youth and women in India. It will motivate and inspire Indian youth particularly the women folks towards adventurous events being women expedition which has passed through the borders. It will also promote spirit of National Integration, Adventure and patriotism amongst the Indian women population in particular and in general public at large. It will also create awareness among the border population towards BSF duties and its hardship and will promote a sense of security among the border population of this country.
