WORKSHOP ON “CHEMICAL BIOLOGY AND DRUG DISCOVERY" ORGANIZED BY PU IN ASSOCIATION WITH NIPER

As a part of second phase of MHRD Global Initiatve of Aademic networks (GIAN) program, a one week international workshop on the theme “Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery" began at NIPER Mohali today.

A leading Chemical Biology expert Prof Sanjay Malhotra, FRSC from Department of Radiation Oncology (Cancer and Radiation Biology), Department of Radiology (Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford), Director, INDO-US Center for Non-Communicable Diseases, Director, Stanford-SRI Drug Discovery and Development Program, (Stanford Cancer Institute), Stanford University School of Medicine, USA will deliver this one week course. Local GIAN Coordinator and Director SAIF/CIL Professor S. K. Mehta welcomed the guests and elaborated the objectives of the GIAN program. Nine GIAN programs by foreign faculty from U.S.A., Germany, U.K., Canada and Singapore were successfully organized during 2016-2017. Professor Raghuram Rao, Director, NIPER, Mohali, appreciated the efforts of PU Vice Chancellor to organize this event at NIPER. Prof. Rao felt happy as about 80 participants registered for this event at NIPER.

Prof. Sanjay Malhotra, in his brief address encouraged participants to be more interactive during this event. Dr. Anil Koul, Director CSIR-IMTECH, inaugurated the workshop and delivered a key note address elaborating the discovery of Bedaquiline, a new TB Drug. Dr. Deepak Salunke, Course Coordinator highlighted the details of the objectives of the course and elaborated upon the fact that the basic aim of thisworkshop is to make us understand basics of chemical biology and drug discovery. Prof. Bharatam, Dean NIPER delivered a vote of thanks.
