PUNJAB POLICE ENTER SEMIS ON BETTER GOAL AVERAGE

Punjab Police entered into the semi- finals of the 34th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here on Friday. In spite of losing the league match against Bharat Petroleum by 1-2, on better goal average Punjab Police reserved the berth in semis. In Pool B of men section Punjab Police, Bharat Petroleum and Indian Air Force bagged four points each after two league encounters. But on better goal average Punjab Police got advantage.

In women's section Punjab XI register their second victory in the league fixture by beating UCO Bank by 3-0 in pool A. Now Punjab XI have six points from two outings, their last league match is against Western Railways, that will decide which team will qualify for finals.

In men's other match Air India Mumbai and CAG Delhi remains goalless draw in pool A.
Punjab XI started well their Rajwinder Kaur scored field goal from the top of the striking circle (1-0). In the 17th minute of the play Reena scored a field goal from the pass of Pooja from left flank (2-0). At half time Punjab XI was leading by 2-0.

In the second half Punjab girls displayed defensive game. In the 69th minute of the game Jyoti of Punjab completed the tally (3-0).

In men's Pool A Air India Mumbai and CAG Delhi played a goalless draw and split points. Now CAG after two matches are having two points and Air India after one match have one point.
In men's section pool B Punjab Police and Bharat Petroleum Mumbai played fast game. Punjab Police wasted golden chance to chance when Akashdeep Singh’s hard hit went out after kissing goal mouth. In the 25th minute of the play Punjab Police defenders make mistake and Olympian Tushar Khandker netted the ball for Bharat Petroleum (1-0).

At half time Bharat Petroleum were leading by 1-0. After changing ends in 39th minute Bharat Petroleum’s Harmanpreet Singh converted the penalty corner to consolidate (2-0). In the 52nd minute Punjab Police’s Olympian and Indian skipper Manpreet Singh sounded board from the pass of Olympian Dharamvir Singh (1-2). Punjab Police lost the match by 1-2.
