HARYANA DECIDES TO QUICKLY EVOLVE FULL PROOF SYSTEM OF FREE AND FAIR STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Haryana Government has decided to quickly evolve a full proof and modernistic system of free, fair, peaceful elections to student councils and pilot it in a few campuses in the next semester of the current academic session. Based on the learning from these pilots, a pan Haryana electoral system that is driven by IT would be rolled in all the colleges and universities within first eight to ten weeks of the next academic session as per Lyngdoh Committee Report.

This was disclosed by Education Minister, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma after an interaction with the Committee of Vice Chancellors set up by the government to implement poll promise.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, Mrs. Jyoti Arora and Director General, Mr. Vijay Singh Dahiya, Members of four-member committee constituted for conducting students’ union elections including Chairman of the Committee and Vice-Chancellor, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellors of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Prof. Bijender Kumar Punia and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Dr. K.C. Sharma, and Member Secretary of the Committee and Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur, Dr. Madan Lal. Apart from these, representatives of different student unions were also present in the meeting.
