WHITE COAT CEREMONY AND INDUCTION PROGRAMME FOR BDS STUDENT HELD AT PANJAB UNIVERSITYH

Dr. Niharika Kharbanda, District Nodal Officer G.S.T., Excise and Taxation Department, Punjab, expressed her happiness to be part of the event and advised the students to do justice to the profession. She further added that the authority of white coat is serious and purposeful, not social, casual or random.

Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized ‘White Coat Ceremony and Induction Programme’ to welcome BDS first year students and help them to establish a psychological contract for the practice of dentistry, here today at Law auditorium Panjab University in presence of family, friends and faculty.

 
 
 
Principal-cum-Professor Dr. Ashish Jain while welcoming the incoming students said  that the White Coat Ceremony is a “rite of passage” for dental college students that encourage a psychological contract for professionalism and empathy.

The event emphasized the importance of the foundational mission of the institution: education, research, patient care and service. The white coat is a symbolic, non-verbal communication used to express and reaffirm a fundamental belief in a system that society observes, he added. Dr. Ashish informed that the event is designed around new students for providing information about program and student services. This will also help students to know faculty members, administrative staff and will enhance college experience.

 Dr. Bhupesh Satija, who is currently undergoing training as an Assistant Commissioner with Indian Revenue Services, in his address, urged the students to be on the path of righteousness. The students were presented, white coats symbolizing the mantle of their chosen profession.

The students undertook a professional Dental Oath, publicly acknowledging their new responsibilities and their willingness to assume the obligations of their new profession.
