FLYING SIKH MILKHA SINGH, SUNIL MUNJAL, AMONG OTHERS TO GET KHEL RATTAN, GYAN RATTAN AND UDYOG RATTAN AWARDS FROM PU

Panjab University, Chandigarh in its Senate Meeting held here on Saturday, approved the conferment of  the Honoris  Causa Degrees and presentation of Khel Rattan, Gyan Rattan  and Udyog Rattan Awards to the followings  at  the next  Annual Convocation of Panjab

University scheduled on March 4,2018: Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, Doctor of Laws (Honoris  Causa),Prof. M.M. Sharma (FRS),  D.Sc. (Honoris Causa), Prof. Sir Tejinder Singh Virdee (FRS),  D.Sc., (Honoris Causa),   Shri  Milkha Singh, (Khel  Rattan), Prof. B.N. Goswami, (Gyan Rattan), Shri  Sunil Kant Munjal, (Udyog Rattan).

PANJAB UNIVERSITY SENATE MEETING

Regarding the issue of framing rules and regulations of Migration cases in different departments, the Senate resolved to form a Standing Committee under the Chairmanship of DUI to evaluate the same in an objective manner. The Senate approved the recommendations of the Board of Finance as endorsed by the Syndicate dated 10.12.2017, for budget estimates of Rs. 556.38 crores for the year 2018-19. In particular, Rs. 23.28 crore earmarked for completion of the multipurposeAuditorium, Sector-25, PU, stands approved.The Senate approved the recommendations regarding the major repairs of the roof of the PU Regional Centre, Shri Muktsar Sahib.

The Senate also approved five Senate Members to the Academic Council for the term Ist February 2018 to 31 January 2019 as :   Prof. Chaman Lal (Retd.),  Prof. Mukesh Arora,   Dr. K.K. Sharma,  Dr. Parveen Goyal,  Sh. Jagdeep Kumar. 

The Senate approved the names of two Senate Members namely Ambassador I.S.Chadha, IFS (Retd.) and Dr. R.S.Jhanji, Principal, A.S. College, Khanna as members of Board of Finance for a term of one year w.e.f. 1.2.2018. 

The Senate adopted the Minutes of the committee constituted by the VC to examine therate of interest on Contributory Provident Fund and General Provident Fund to be paid to the employees for the period 1.4.2016 to 31.3.2017. 

The Senate approved the recommendations of the committee which had framed guidelines for creating and utilizing PU Voluntary Contribution Fund. The Senate approved the roster prepared by the committee Chaired by DUI for the post of Assistant Professors. 

The Senate post facto approved the same fee structure, guidelines for NRI students seeking admission to PG/UG Courses for 2017-18 was as applicable in the year 2016-17. Apart from this, it was also decided that the fresh guidelines should be made for thenext academic year.

The Senate approved the revised fees structure of hostels and PU Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur for the year 2017-18.

 PUTA President raised the issue of incomes of Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA), for not having included in the University’s Income & Expenditure statement.  On  this, it was clarified that PUAA is a separate legal entity registered under the  Societies Registration Act (1860) and hence the Income & Expenditure of PUAA cannot be included in the Income & Expenditure Statement of P.U.  The office of Dean Alumni Relations had been created by P.U. and expenses related to this office only get reflected in the P.U. budget document.

The President, PUTA and Secretary, PUTA expressed serious concerns relating to recommendation of Board of Finance and Syndicate for signing MoU with State Bank of   India for issue of Combo Cards to students, researchers, faculty and non-teaching staff, citing apprehensions over security issues.  It was, therefore, agreed that a Joint Committee comprising representatives of PUTA, PUSA and Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) shall meet SBI representatives to seek clarifications on this.  It was pointed out by FDO that move for Combo Cards was initiated on the articulation of its requirement by PUCSC.
