HARYANA DECIDES BUSES EQUIPPED WITH WHEEL CHAIRS

Haryana Government has decided that all government and private buses in future would be equipped in such a manner which would be friendly to persons with visual disabilities for making their travel more convenient.  All the buses which would be bought in future would be friendly to persons with visual disabilities and even the old buses would be equipped with ramps for their convenience.

This was informed in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, Mr D. S. Dhesi here today regarding creating such facilities in the state which would be more convenient to the persons with visual disabilities. 

Mr Dhesi directed to equip all bus stands with wheelchairs for the use of persons with visual disabilities. He also directed for issuing guidelines to the private bus operators for providing facilities in the buses for the convenience of persons with visual disabilities.

It was apprised in the meeting that 42 in Gurugram and 47 buildings in Faridabad were being constructed which would be convenient to persons with visual disabilities. A sum of over Rs 55 crore had been released by the Central Government for such government buildings. In the third phase, the government buildings rendering public services in ten more districts including Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Hisar and Rewari would be made friendly to persons with visual disabilities.

It was informed that 69 websites of the state would become friendly to persons with visual disabilities by March 2018. Till now, 16 websites have been developed in a similar manner. It was informed that the meeting of State Advisory Board would soon be convened. Senior officers of concerned department were present in the meeting.
