Bharatiya Janata Party District President and Councillor Ward 20, Shakti Prakash Devshali in a letter written to Governor Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh Sh. V.P.Singh Badnore demanded immediate steps to start process of allotment of flats under rehabilitation scheme to the jhuggi dwellers of Colony No. 4. He said that Estate Office, Chandigarh conducted Biometric Survey in the year 2006 in Colony No. 4, Industrial Area, Phase-I, Chandigarh for allotment of small flats under Rehabilitation Scheme. The eligible residents had deposited Rs.900/- with Chandigarh Housing Board for allotment of flats.

Devshali said that the flats constructed for rehabilitation purpose are ready for allotment but the process has been delayed a lot. The jhuggi dwellers are waiting for pucca houses as they are living in miserable condition.

He further said that new academic session of schools will start from April, 2018 the local residents will admit their children in the nearby schools. If the flats are allotted in the mid of session, they will suffer a lot in migrating their children from one school to other. This will definitely disturb their studies as it will not be possible for the poor labour class people to drop and pick their children from far-away places.

Devshali requested Sh. Badnore to direct the concerned officials to start the process of allotment of these flats to the eligible jhuggi-dwellers well in time so as to make the city ‘slum-free’.
