Haryana Governor, Prof. Captain Singh Solanki today hoisted the National Flag at the state level Republic Day celebrations held at Police Lines ground, Ambala City and took salute from the various contingents at an impressive parade.

On this occasion, the Governor conferred the gallantry awards upon Master Rahul Nokwal of village Dhabi Kalan, Fatehabad and Master Gaurav of village Saundhad, district Palwal. Master Rahul Nakhwal had safely pulled out two children as they were drowning in a canal.Master Gaurav had also saved the lives of two children drowning in the village pond.

He also honored 18 freedom fighters and their dependents, eight war widows and families of martyrs, 10 victims of emergency, three life members of the Hindi Aandolan and 22 others including officers, players, students for their outstanding achievements in different fields.

Earlier, he also paid floral tributes to freedom fighters and martyrs at War Memorial. He said that the country has become independent due to their great sacrifices and we have got the opportunity to celebrate Republic Day.
Addressing the people, the Governor said that apart from physical development, State of Haryana has kept its cultural values as well. This region is the basic center of Indian culture. Here in the Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna gave the eternal message of the Bhagwad Gita. To spread it worldwide, an international level Gita Mahotsav was held. Stringent laws are implemented in the state for protection of cows. Efforts are being made to revive the holy Saraswati River.

Referring to the role of Ambala in the country's freedom struggle, he said that the first spark of freedom movement was ignited from there on May 8, 1857. He said that Haryana Government would set up a national war memorial at Ambala Cantonment at a cost of around Rs 175 crore. He also listed the various achievements of the present government and schemes and programmes being carried out for welfare of people.The Governor honored the war widows, meritorious students and distinguished employees of the district on this occasion.
