PU TO ORGANISE TWO DAYS NATIONAL SEMINAR ON 'GLOBALIZATION, ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN RIGHTS' FROM FEB.1

Department of Hindi, Panjab University and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) are jointly organizing a two day national seminar on the theme 'Globalization, Environment and Human Rights' at Evening Auditorium, Panjab University on 1st and 2nd February 2018. Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Department of Hindi, and Coordinator of the seminar informed that Shri S.C. Sinha, honourable member, NHRC, will be the chief guest and present the inaugural address of the seminar . Renowned environmentalist and Magsaysay award winner Dr. Rajendra Singh will deliver the keynote address at the seminar.

Sharing the details of the program Dr Gurmeet Singh said that, "The seminar will have three academic sessions that will bring together experts from various fields including Environment, Political Science, Public Administration, Human Rights, Literature, Vivekananda Studies, History, Media who would deliberate on the theme of seminar." He also informed that keeping in mind the need to promote quality research and deliberations on the subject, academic sessions for paper presentation will commence three days prior to seminar and will have participants presenting their papers on the themes of Globalization, Environment and Human Rights.

The inaugural session on 1st February will also have Shri Ambuj Sharma, Secretary General, NHRC and Dr. Ranjit Singh, Joint Secretary, NHRC. Professor Meenakshi Malhotra, DUI, Panjab University will deliver the presidential address.Prof Sheena Paul will conduct the proceedings of this session. The inaugural session will be followed by academic sessions. The first academic session titled, 'Save Earth; save Life' will have Professor M.K. Pandit from Department of Environment, Delhi University and Prof Swaranjit Kaur from Department of Human Rights, Panjab University as key speakers. Shri P.K. Mahapatra, Additional chief Secretary to Govt. Haryana will be the special guest in this session. The second academic session will be on the theme, 'Nature, Environment and Human Rights' will be chaired by Dr. R.C Mishra, ADGP, Ambala Range. It will have addresses by Smt. Mamta Singh , IGP, Panchkula, Haryana and Prof Pampa Mukherjee from Dept. of Political Science, Panjab University. The third academic session will be chaired by Dr. Roshan Sunkaria, Principal Secretary, Science Technology and Environment. The session will see addresses from Professor Nandita Singh, Coordinator Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies and Dr. Shyamali Singh from Indian Institute of Public Administration. Col. G.S.Chadha, Registrar, Panjab University, will be the special guest in this session. The two day seminar would bring together sessions and expert talks on the pertinent issues of Globalization, Environment and Human Rights.
