The Bharatiya Janata Party has urged Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh not to defend the perpetrators of 1984 Sikh massacre.  The party said Capt Singh must immediately stop defending villains like Jagdish Tytler, HKL Bhagat and Sajjan Kumar.

Tarun Chugh, the national secretary of the BJP said, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, while addressing a public rally in Ram Lila Grounds at Delhi had justified the killings of Sikhs by saying that "When a big tree falls, the earth shakes."

He asked the Chief Minister whether he was now justifying and defending the infamous statement made by the then Prime Minister?  Terming Amarinder's defence of Rajiv Gandhi as height of sycophancy Chugh said, it was a desperate attempt to please his lords Sonia and Rahul Gandhi to save his position as Chief Minister.

Chugh reminded Capt Amarinder that senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, who is an accused in cases related to 1984 Sikh massacre, has himself come forward on national TV to let people know that he had accompanied Rajiv Gandhi in a vehicle driven by the former Prime Minister himself on the roads of national capital during the days of Sikh massacre in the first week of November, 1984.

The BJP leader wondered that while the Gandhi family chose to remain mum and did not confront Tytler's claims, Capt Amarinder had stepped in to save the already sullied image of Rajiv Gandhi.  He said Capt Amarinder both as a Sikh and as the Chief Minister of Punjab should have been on the forefront to get justice for the victims of 1984 but was defending the perpetrators.

Chugh said that it was sad to know that a leader who had quit Congress in 1984 on Sikh issues was defending the killers of Sikhs just to retain his chiefministership.

He said that though it seems to be hoping against hope, he would still hope that Amarinder sees reason and stands with his Sikh brethren and fights for justice for the community.
