NIPER MOURNS THE DEMISE OF IT’S THE FOUNDERDIRECTOR,DR. C.L.KAUL

Dr. C.L.Kaul, the founder Director of NIPER, SAS Nagar has left for heavenly abode on16 Feb. 2018.  He was born on October 10th, 1936. He studied for his B.Pharmat Panjab University, Chandigarh and completed his PhD in Pharmacology in 1978 fromUniversity of Glasgow at U.K.After doing post –doctoral research at University of Glasgow at U.K.,he worked as a visiting professor at various institutes in Pharmacy.He worked as research Scientist and group leader in Ciba Geigy Research Centre, Mumbai and then as the Director of R&D BOOTS Pharmaceuticals Limited, Mumbai.He joined NIPER as the founder Director on 1 September 1994 and served for a period of 10 years and superannuated on 31st August 2004.

 His research work spans over 4 decades centered on pre-clinical studies of new drugs, stability, bioequivalence, formulations Q.A. and Q. C. He published more than 150 original research articles in peered review journals and 20 patents during 60 years research carrier. His main areas of interest were hypertension, diabetes, autonomic pharmacology clinical research and tropical medicines.

Dr. Kaul was an advisor to Pharmaceutical industry and a visiting professor and member/Chairman of several governing bodies and of pharma academic institutes. He was very active professionally and was a member of several scientific organisations. He was the Editor of I.J.P.S. and was on the advisory board of many Journals. He was a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences of India, Punjab Academy of Sciences and Indian Pharmaceutical Association.

He had been awarded Eminent Pharmacist Award by the Indian Pharmaceutical Association. A special award was conferred by the Indian Pharmacological Society to Dr. Kaul for outstanding contribution to the development of Pharmacology in India. His pioneering efforts in establishing NIPER were highly appreciated and recognized across the world.

NIPER held a condolence meeting on Monday MBA Seminar Hall of the Institute where the faculty, staff and students mourned the demise of Dr. C.L.Kaul.
