Chandigarh (J.S.Kaler)

The leader of opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Monday leveled serious corruption allegations against Cabinet Minister Charnjeet Singh Channi for his alleged involvement in illegal sand mining through his nephew in the state. Providing evidence in the case, Khaira alleged that Malikpur mine in district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar was allotted to Kudratdeep Singh S/o Kamaljeet Singh of Ludhiana who is the business partner and close associate of Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh alias Honey. Howeever Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi denies charges levelled by Mr. Khaira , saying i and my family have nothing to the business of mining.

The leader of the opposition said that just as Rana Gurjit Singh invested his money in sand mining contract through his cook Amit Bahadur, in same way Channi did it through Honey. He said that Honey has floated a firm named Punjab Realtors Co. to get contracts of sand mining. “The case clearly shows that black money was invested in getting contract of sand mine as the said company is of very small scale and was not able to get contract of Crores.” Khaira said.

Showing photos of Honey and Kudratdeep Singh with Congress Ministers Channi,Tript Rajinder Bajwa and Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Khaira said that it shows that the contractor has deep links with the Congress leaders. He asked the Govt. to mark an inquiry in the case by a commission under sitting or retired judge of High Court.

“The chief minister had tweeted about the illegal mining being carried out in the SBS Nagar area few days back, I have provided the facts about it and now it is the turn of CM to take action against people responsible for it.” Khaira said. He said that being leader of opposition in Punjuab Vidhan sabha, he will continue to raise the voice of people inside and outside the assembly..

In the meantime Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi, Technical Education Minister said, I or my family members have nothing to do with mining business. Channi dares Khaira to prove his or his family members' even a single penny in mining business or face action,

Mr. Channi in a statement said, I am ready to swear at Sri Darbar Sahib with family, Khaira should also come forward with his family, liar would be punished.

Channi has once again reiterated that he or any his family members' does not have any link or stake in the mining business. Reacting to the allegations leveled by Mr. Sukhpal Singh Khaira AAP leader and leader of the opposition, Mr. Channi said that Khaira has leveled baseless and false allegations.

Mr. Channi said that earlier few days back Khaira had said that my relatives were indulged in illegal mining and backtracked from it now, and he is saying that some known people of my relatives are involved in illegal mining, and he himself says that the sand mine site in question is legally allotted by the government in an open auction, surprisingly every day Khaira changes his statement and come up with new false story. Mr. Channi said that his photos with the legal sand mine owner presented by Khaira in the media are of public functions and dharnas where anyone can participate, simultaneously Khaira himself says that no one can be declared culprit on the basis of photographs.

Mr. Channi has offered that he with his family members is ready to swear at Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar which is the highest temporal authority that he has no stake in the legal or illegal mining activity. He also asked Khaira to join him along with his family at Sri Darbar Sahib and the Almighty would punish the liar. Mr. Channi further said that he is even ready to swear at any worship place of Khaira's choice.

Mr. Channi dared Khaira to prove even his or his family members' even a single penny in legal or illegal mining otherwise he would have to face legal suite. He has very respectfully asked Khaira to stop such baseless false mud sledging in politics and try to play a role of opposition leader in a constructive manner.
