CBI COURT SENTENED FOUR YEARS RI AND FINE OF TEN LACS TO THEN PROFESSOR OF ESIC IN BRIBERY CASE

The Principal Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bangalore has sentenced Dr. B. V. Navaneeth, then Professor & Head of Department, Department of Micro-Biology, Employees State Insurance Corporation (Ministry of Labour & Employment), Rajaji Nagar, Bangalore to undergo four years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.10 Lakh in a bribery case.

CBI had registered a case on 20.10.2015 on the allegations that Dr. B. V. Navaneeth, Professor & Head of Department, Department of Micro-Biology, Employees State Insurance Corporation, MC & PGIMSR (Ministry of Labour & Employment), Rajaji Nagar, Bangalore had demanded illegal gratification of Rs.25,000/- from a PG student of Microbiology Department, ESIC, Bangalore to show undue favour during the conduct of examination.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused for accepting the bribe. After completion of investigation, a charge sheet was filed on 14.06.2016 against the accused u/s 7, 11 and Sec. 13(1)(d) of PC Act,1988. The Trial court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
