OPIUM SUMMUGGLING TO PUNJAB VIA BANGALDESH, DELHI POLICE RECOVERED 15 KG. OPIUM RECOVERED

Opiumis traditionally known as Afeem, Doda or Bhukki in Punjab and adjoining areasof Haryana and as per surveys, is being consumed by most of the truck drivers, farmers and farm workers. The Opium is being supplied to these regions especially from Jharkhand and West Bengal, where it is transported from Bangladesh. 

The IGIS, Crime Branch, Dwarka has busted an international narcotic drugs syndicate and arrested three racketeers including the Carrier, Transporter and receiver of illegal drugs following recovery of total 15kgs of opium (Afeem) from their possession, which was being supplied to Punjab from Bangladesh via Malda, West Bengal. The Eicher truck being used for the transportation from Malda to Punjab has been seized. The estimated value of the seized opium is Rs. 1.5 crores in international market.

Police identified the accused as  Alam Sheikh (26 years) r/o PS Kalia Chak,Malda, Wesst Bengal. (He iS Carrier of narcotic drugs), Shakeel (45 years) r/o PS     Mundali, Meerut, UP. (He worked astransporter of narcotic drugs inhis Eicher Truck) Jasvinder @ Ladi (32 years) r/o District Shamli, UP. (He is receiver of narcoticdrugs)    

Mr. Bhisham Singh, DCP, said, ASI Rajesh Kumar and ASI RajenderPrasad posted in Crime Branch, Dwarka received secret information that the members of an international narcotic drugs syndicate being run by one Ibrahim were indulged in supply of huge quantity of opium from Malda, West Bengal to Punjab via UP and Delhi. Information further entailed that the members of thesyndicate would come near Majnu Ka Tila, Timarpur area in an Eicher truck withhuge consignment of opium. This information was further developed and a teamof Crime Branch under close supervision of ACP Aditya Gautam led by Insp. Sunil Jain, comprising of SI Rakesh Yadav, SI Arvind, ASI Rajender Prasad, ASI RajeshKumar, ASI Hanuman Singh, ASI Mahesh Kumar, ASI Kanwal Singh, ASI Shreeom, ASIKuldeeep Singh, HC Ram Dass, HC Gangadhar and Ct. Om Prakash was constituted tonab the racketeers. The Crime Branch team laid a trap near expected placeof arrival and the accused persons were successfully apprehended with 15 kgs ofopium kept in the Eicher truck. Accordingly, a case under appropriate sectionsof law was registered and the accused persons were arrested in the case.

Police said, interrogation of the arrested accused persons revealed that the syndicate is being run by one Ibrahim r/o Malda, who procures the opium from Bangladesh and Jharkhand and supplies the same invarious areas of UP, Delhi and Punjab.   The accused Alam Sheikh, the carrier, belongs to a lower middle class family ofVillage Mojampur, District Malda, West Bengal and has studied up to high school. After that, he went to Goa and learnt the work of ‘Raj Mistry’. Hisfather is suffering from a heart ailment and he was in dire need of money forhis treatment. About 4-5 months back, he came in contact with Ibrahim, who waslooking for a cheaper carrier of illegal drugs. He lured him to this illegaltrade and assured him to pay Rs. 10,000/- per trip to accompany Shakeel, thetransporter with illegal drugs.

The accused Shakeel (aged 45 years) is an expert and skilled truck driver and hadworked as a helper and driver on long route trucks for about 20 years. In theyear 2008, he went to Saudi Arabia, worked as a truck driver for about 6 yearsand came back to India in 2014. By his earnings from Saudi Arabia, the accusedShakeel purchased his own truck and started a transport business. During thisperiod, he came in contact with Ibrahim, who lured him into this business witha promise to pay Rs. 20,000/- for each trip. Finding the offer profitable, theaccused Shakeel started working for him 2-3 years ago.

The accused Jasvinder @ Ladi, the receiver, owns a Dhaba by the name of ‘Virk Jack’on Shamli-Karnal Road, where large number of truck drivers are regular customers, who consume opium. About 2-3 years back, he came in contact withShakil, who was supplying opium for Ibrahim. Finding this trade profitable, theaccused Jasvinder @ Ladi then started purchasing opium from Ibrahim and sellingin retail to truck drivers and also further supplied to his various contact inPunjab and Haryana in wholesale.

Rs. 10 lacs per kg..Malda has become hub for illegal transport of Psychotropic substances such as Codeine/ Phenadryl to Bangladesh from North India andsupply of FICN & Opium from Bangladesh to various states in India via Malda.    Raids are being conducted in West Bengal to arrest the mastermind Ibrahim. Investigation of the case is inprogress.
