FARMER UNION HOLD ANOTHER PROTEST, LOCKS GATES OF PUNJAB GRAMIN BANK AT VILLAGE SHEHJADI

FEROZEPUR: Another protest was held by farmer outfits in front of Punjab Gramin Bank at Village Shehjadi. The farmer outfits led by Bhartiya Kisan Union (Dakonda) and Bharitya Kisan Union (Krantikari), locked the gates of the bank due to which the staff members of the bank as well as the others had to suffer. These farmers were protesting against the notices for recovery of dues being sent by the bank officials.(SUBHEAD)

Harnek Singh Mehma, farmer union leader said the matter pertaining to the recovery of loans from farmers was subjudiced in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, hence till the outcome of the case no bank official could serve notices to farmers for bank loan recovery. He alleged that despite the directions of the High court, the bank officials are sending notices to the poor farmers and humiliating the farmers.

It is pertinent to mention here that during recent times, several incidents have taken place where the farmer union locked the gates of the bank to express their anger.

Earlier, on May 19 the farmers under the banner of BKU (Krantikari) and BKU (Dakonda) had locked the gates of PADB Bank in Ferozepur. On April 21, a bank official was detained by the farmers at Village Mehma. on December 27, 2017. On December 27 last year, the farmer unions had locked the bank officials of PADB Bank in Guruharsahai following which a case was registered against five farmers under various sections 342, 353, 186, 283, 506, 149 of IPC and Environment Protection Act 15 (1986) at Guruharsahai police station
