SOLANKI INAUGURATES NATIONAL KAYAKING AND CANOEING CHAMPINSHIP AT SUKHNA LAKE

The Haryana Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, inaugurated the 7th Senior National Kayaking and Canoeing Championship at Sukhna Lake, here today. The three-day event from June 27 to June 30 has been organized jointly by the Haryana Kayaking and Canoeing Association and Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said players are ambassadors of world peace, unity and harmony. While playing anywhere in the world, they forget their caste, color, creed and everything which causes discrimination and friction and help in promoting brotherhood.

Referring to the Kayaking and Canoeing Championship, the Governor said Haryana’s contribution to sports was well known, but this championship had added a new chapter in water sports for Haryana.

Speaking on this occasion, lifelong President of Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Mr. S. Raghunathan said that in addition to 26 states and Union Territories, more than 750 men and women athletes from Indian Army and joint forces were participating in the competitions. The aim of these events is to encourage water sports and give new players an opportunity to show their talents.

General Secretary, Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Mr. Prashant Kushwaha, Executive President of Haryana Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Mr. Vashisht Kumar, Director Sports Department of Panjab University, Dr. Parminder Singh, were also present on this occasion.
