PUNJAB DECLARES HOLIDAY IN GOVT OFFICES & EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AS MARK OF RESPECT OF EX PM ATAL BEHARI VAJPAYEE

The Punjab and Harryana Chief Ministeres, condoles the sad demise of Ex PM Sh; Atal Behari Vajpayee. Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has mourned the sad demise of Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister, and described it as an irreparable loss to the nation, its polity, and the BJP. Mr Vajpayee breathed his last at the AIIMS in New Delhi today where he had been admitted nine weeks ago and was put on life support system.

In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said the poet-cum-journalist-turned two-time Prime Minister and parliamentarian of rare attributes and faculties bestrode the political scene in the country like a colossus, commanding the respect of even those across the political spectrum.

A powerful orator, parliamentarism of unmatched debating skills, an able administrator, and a statesman of rare foresight, his contribution to the country and its economy as the Prime Minister of India will remain etched in golden letters. His undiluted commitment and unending zeal to take the country to greater heights made him roll out economic reforms, and earned him the Pokharan repute which put the country on the road to nuclear energy.”

Mr Vajpayee was a towering figure in the world of letters, politics and public service. In his death, the country has lost a versatile genius who always stood for the cause of the poor and the downtrodden, the Chief Minister added.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh expressed deep grief over the passing away of the Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee terming it as end of an era.In his condolence message, the Speaker said that with the demise India has lost one of great and visionary leaders. He said Sh. Vajpayee was a true statesman, who made relentless efforts for inclusive development of the country.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday mourned the demise of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, describing him as a towering personality who would always remain a beacon to inspire the young politicians to tread the path of value-based politics.

As a mark of respect, the Punjab Government has declared that all its offices, boards, corporations and other public sector undertakings besides educational institutions would remain close on Friday. The state government has also declared mourning in memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the lines of Government of India.

In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said that Atal ji was a multifaceted personality and a fine human being with the qualities of the head and heart.

Capt Amarinder Singh termed him as a "true statesman, a great scholar, an eminent poet besides a heartthrob of millions of countrymen." 

Vajpayee's stint as Prime Minister would be remembered by one and all for his path-breaking initiatives viz Pradhanmantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, Sarv Siksha Abhiyan, Telecom Revolution and introduction of Fiscal Responsibility Act, which transformed the destiny of India.

Recalling his personal ties with Vajpayee, the Chief Minister said, "As Prime Minister. Atal ji had extremely cordial and warm relations with all the Chief Ministers irrespective of their party affiliations and treated them equally without any prejudice of regionalism.”

He has left an indelible imprint in the Indian polity and global arena, strengthening the bonds of peace, communal harmony and national integration.Punjab Education, Environment and Welfare of Freedom Fighters Minister Mr. O.P. Soni condoles the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away at the age of 93. Mr Vajpayee had been on life-support system since Wednesday night in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Delhi. The former prime minister captivated the nation with his dry wit and oratory skills. Mr. Soni prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul.  Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore expressed his heartfelt condolences over the demise of former Prime Minister and  veteran leader of Bhartiya Janta Party, Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
