NOTORIOUS DRUG SMUGGLER ESCAPED FROM POLICE CUSTODY DURING FIRING BY HIS SUPPORTER IN FEROZEPUR

Harbhajan Singh alias Rana , a notorious drug smuggler who was presently lodged in Nabha Central jail, was taken away from the custody of the police by some unidentified bike riders on Saturday evening while he had come to Ferozepur.

As per information available, the incident took place today evening at around 5.00 pm when the police was taking him back to Nabha jail in police van. When they reached near Village Ghallkhurd, they decided to stay at some dhaba for some refreshment. Suddenly, three unidentified bike riders come and started indiscriminate firing on the policemen due to which one police official identified Lachhman Singh got injured. Meanwhile the bike drivers took away Harbhajan alias Rana with them.

Panic was spread in the entire area after the incident. The injured policemen was admitted in the civil hospital. When contacted Jasvir Singh, SHO Ghallkhurd police station said that naka has been laid in the entire area and the accused will be nabbed soon.

It is pertinent to mention here that 22.530 Kg heroin  valuing crores of rupees in international market was recovered from Harbhajan and his accomplice Rishi alias Babbar, a resident of Zirakpur (Mohali) and Saurabh, resident of Phillaur. Later he was sent to Nabha central jail and today he had come to Ferozepur for court hearing. Besides he was booked in several other cases related to NDPS and robbery.
