District BJP President Davinder Bajaj and the BJP supported candidates who had gone to file the nomination papers for Zila-Parishad and Block Samiti polls to be held on September 19th, were allegedly attacked by the congress workers today in Ferozepur.

While taking to  media persons after the incident, Bajaj along with Umesh Sharda, State BJP Secretary, said that since it was last day to file the nomination, they had already informed the district administration yesterday that their candidates will file the nominations today. “I was personally assured by the SSP that no untoward incident will take place. SDM Ferozepur Amit Gupta today called me to come for the nomination process. However, when we reached today to file the nomination, we found that the district administrative complex was converted into a fort. Barricading was done where hundreds of congress workers were present. As soon as we entered and reached the basement area in DAC, we were attacked by the Congress workers. Even the female candidates were not spared and were brutally beaten by them. Few Amritdhari candidates were badly beaten and their turbans were removed”, said Bajaj.

While terming this incident as the “murder” of democracy, State BJP Secretary Umesh Sharda said that he had already told the election commission about the hooliganism unleashed by congress workers but sadly nothing was done. “We demand that the last date of filing the nomination should be extended by 72 hours. If our demands are not met, we will launch a protest. We have formed a four member committee of BJP workers including District BJP President, Jugraj Katora (former district BJP President), Ashwani Grover President Municipal Council and Advocate Ashwani Dhingra who will take up the matter with the DGP Punjab and will apprise him about the situation”, said Sharda.

Meanwhile, Amit Gupta SDM Ferozepur denied all such allegation leveled by BJP workers. “All the parties had four days to file the nomination papers and even the independent candidates have file the nomination. I don’t understand why the BJP leaders are leveling such allegations”, said Gupta.

Chamkaur Singh District Congress Committee Chief said that he is not aware about the incident. “I want to ask one thing to BJP candidates that why they waited for the last to file the nomination papers. They are all leveling false allegations to hide their own weakness”, said Gulshan Monga, congress leader.
