HIGHCOURT ASKS HARYANA GOVT. TO ENSURE VACATION OF THREE POLICE STATIONS TO DECLARE PROTECT MONUMENTS

Panjab and Haryana Highcourt asks the Haryana Government to ensure vacation of 3 Local Police stations operating from ancient monuments in Safidon, Ballabhgarh and Raina ( near Sirsa) so that the aforesaid buildings may be considered for declaring as Protected Monuments:

Before proceeding further with a PIL filed by Yash Pal Gulia, a retired Sub Divisional Engineer of PWD Haryana, seeking directions to Haryana Government, Archeological Survey of India, to survey and inspect all the ancient monuments, archeological sites and remains located within State of Haryana, and to take steps for their preservation and maintenance as Protected Monuments, the HC Bench comprising Chief Justice and Justice Arun Palli today directed the Haryana Government to ensure vacation of 3 Local Police stations operating from ancient monuments in Safidon, Ballabhgarh and Raina ( near Sirsa) so that the aforesaid buildings may be considered for declaring as Protected Monuments. The Counsel for petitioner brought it to the notice of the HC Bench that as per affidavit filed by Dr. Parveen Kumar, on behalf of Director General, Archeology and Museums Department, Haryana, the Ballabhgarh Fort, the Safidon Fort and Raina Fortress (Near Sirsa) were in occupation of Local Police Stations, and those are required to be got vacated from Police Stations so that these ancient monuments/buildings may be considered for declaring as Protected Monuments for their preservation and maintenance.

The PIL shall now come up for further hearing of the remaining issues before the HC on 29.10.2018.
