GREETS PEOPLE ON DIWALI, URGES THEM TO ADHERE TO THE SUPREME COURT GUIDELINES ON CRACKER BURSTING

The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Mr. V.P. Singh Badnore greeted the people of Punjab and Chandigarh on the auspicious occasion of Diwali and called for renewing our resolve to strengthen the forces of peace and sustaining the higher values of human conduct for building a healthy and harmonious society.

In his message, the Governor said that the festival of lights symbolizes the victory of peace over conflict, good over evil, light over darkness and stressed the need to be truthful and righteous in our thoughts and deeds.

Sending across a message to celebrate non- polluting Diwali, the Governor advised the people to celebrate "Green Diwali" without causing any pollution to the environment. He especially called upon the farming community of the state to stop burning straw stubble as it not only causes pollution but also affects animals, birds and human beings.

The Governor also urged the people of Chandigarh and Punjab to adhere to the guidelines of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India of bursting of Crackers between 8.00 PM to 10.00 PM on Diwali Day.
