DELHI POLICE ARRESTED NIGERIAN DRUG PEDDLER WITH 50 GRAMS OF FINE QUALITY HEROIN

The team of Narcotics Squad of WestDistrict Police has arrested one Nigerian national accused on charge of drugpeddling and succeeded to recover 50 grams of fine quality Heroin from hispossession. The market value ofrecovered Heroin is several lakhs. The accused identified as ChnemereTony age 37 years R/o Troyi Ave Enugu, Nigeria from whom 50 Grams of Heroin worth Rs. several lakhs recovered.

Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, DCP, said, on 20.02.2019, an information was received to ASI Suresh Pal, posted in NarcoticsSquad, West District, Delhi that a Nigerian National viz. Tony who is activelyindulged in drug peddling, would come to DDA Park, A-1 Block, Janak Puri todeliver the consignment of drugs. The information was immediately shared with senior officers and as per theirdirections, a special raiding team comprising of ASI Suresh Pal, HC Sanjay and Constable Ajay under the leadership of Inspector Suresh Ranga, I/C NarcoticsSquad/West District and overall supervision of Shri Ishwar Singh,ACP/Operations, West District was constituted to conduct a raid and arrestthe accused. 

During sustained interrogation, accused disclosed that had come to India in the year 2015 on Medical Visa. After treatment, he discreetly stayed inDelhi with other Nigerian national friends. Initially, he worked with his friends in different sectors to earnlivelihood. In 2018, his mother alsocame to India on Medical Visa. But, shehad to return back to Nigeria as the accused was short of funds. Later, he came into contact with otherNigerian fellows, who had been indulging in drug peddling.

The raiding teamimmediately rushed to DDA Park, A-1 Block, Janak Puri and laid a trap bystrategically deploying the team members. At around 4.35 pm, the team spotted a Nigerian national who came therein an E-rickshaw from Najafgarh Road side and stood near the gate of the parkin waiting position. After standingthere for few minutes, when accused was ready to leave the spot, the alertraiding team swiftly swung into action and apprehended him. The accused was informed that the team hasspecific information through reliable sources that he is in possession ofdrugs. He was also informed regardinglegal aspects in this regard and his legal rights thereto. On enquiry, his name was revealed as ChnemereTony age 37 years R/o Troyi Ave Enugu, Nigeria. Accordingly, Shri Ishwar Singh, ACP/Operations was also called at the spotand thereafter his search was conducted in the presence of ACP, as perlaw. During search, 50 grams of whitecolour granular substance was recovered from his possession. The recovered substance was tested at thespot with the help of testing kit and the same was found to be fine qualityHeroin, which was seized and due legal procedures was followed.

On further enquiry, it was revealedthat the accused has no valid passport and visa and has been staying completelyillegally in India since 2015. Accordingly,a case u/s 21 NDPS Act & 14 Foreigners Act was registered at Police StationJanak Puri and investigation taken up.

DISCLOSURE &MODUS-OPERANDI: During sustained interrogation, accused disclosed that had come to India in the year 2015 on Medical Visa. In 2018, his mother alsocame to India on Medical Visa. But, shehad to return back to Nigeria as the accused was short of funds. Later, he came into contact with otherNigerian fellows, who had been indulging in drug peddling. To earn money quickly and easily, the accusedstarted dealing in drugs. Initially, heworked as commission assistant to other drug peddlers. Later, he started working independently asdrug peddler a few months ago. He hadnever dealt in higher quantity of drugs to avoid barrier of commercial quantityas it would attract more stringent law, if caught by police. Further interrogation of accusedperson is in progress. Staff involved ingood work is being rewarded suitably.
