CBI COURT SENTENCED ADVOCATES AND BANK OFFICERS CAUSING LOSS OF 68.74 LAKH TO NIACL

The Special Judge for CBI Cases Dharwad has sentenced  H.N. Shetty, Advocate, Belgaum, Hukkeri; Dr. Rajkumar B. Kopp, Proprietor, Shantha Nursing Home; S.D. Deshpande, the then Branch Manager, Karnataka Vikasa Grameena Bank;  S.D. Badakundri, Advocate;  S.M. Tahasildar, then Police Inspector to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment and Balappa Siddappa Pujari; Lakkappa Vithal Pujeri &  Mudakappa Kareppa Pujeri to undergo one year Simple Imprisonment.

A fine of Rs. 1,80,500/- in total was also imposed.

CBI registered the case on the allegations that the accused were engaged in criminal conspiracy in settling 8-false Motor Vehicle Claims on behalf of 8-fictitious claimants insured with M/s New India Assurance Company Ltd. (NIACL) by way of submitting false medical certificates, without causing the mandatory physical inspection of the accident vehicle at accident spot, its documents and settled the claims. An alleged loss of Rs. 68.74 lakh (approx.) was caused to M/s New India Assurance Company Ltd. (NIACL).

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the accused in the Designated Court. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them.
