Women's health is crucial and it doesn't matter where she lives in, pointed out Dr.Lalli. "Her rights to healthcare facilities remain intact," she said and added that women's reproductive & mental health has remained an area of concern especially when it came to prisons, but there have been constant efforts towards improving the current situation.

We are indeed hopeful with the collaboration established with Gracia Raina foundation to address this issue and take suggestive measures based on the study for improving the life of women in custody. The first workshop in Karnal prison , received a very positive feedback from the inmates and staff . I hope that we can take the programme forward to other prisons as well," she was quoted as saying.

Prisons challenge a woman's mental & physical health. They live in confined spaces, distanced from loved ones and with little to no hope for future relationships. Sanitation continues to be a major issue in most correctional facilities, therefore exposing them to greater health risks. Which was why, GRF was at Chandigarh's Model Jail to share required knowledge with incarcerated women so that they are able to take care of themselves while inside and once released.

Priyanka concluded the session by touching upon the fact how important it is for women to be in control of their bodies, take health decisions all by themselves. "Doesn't matter where you come from or where you are right now - good health is a gift and we all must know how to achieve it, regardless of place or circumstance," she said. The District and Sessions Judge ,Shri Balbir Singh apprecaiated the efforts of GRF,in sensitising the inmates on this important issue.

"For centuries, we have been told what to do and how to take care of ourselves. It's time to take charge of our present and mainly, of our health. Once we know how to go about our own health - put preventive health care on our priority list, there will be no stopping us. We are powerful, we are creators and we have the most beautiful yet delicate health system, which is why we must take good care of ourselves and not depend on others to tell us what to do," Priyanka added.

The #Every Mother workshop was organised to assist them with a platform where they would gain & share knowledge about their varied challenges. The visiting health experts covered a multitude of topics such as nutrition, menstrual health & menopause, pregnancy & family planning, breast & cervical cancer, and self-care with body hygiene. So far, #Every Mother has impacted mothers living in the cities of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. It’s a pan India programme that'll soon reach multiple states.

Gracia Raina Foundation was established in 2017 by Suresh Raina & Priyanka Chaudhary Raina with a simple goal of empowering women, in and on the cusp of their reproductive phase, with knowledge and awareness that further enables them to make improved reproductive and maternal health-oriented decisions.

A woman is most vulnerable when she’s in her adolescence, and that’s where our work begins, of providing individuals with a solid health base. It’s during this time that she experiences varied reproductive health changes that can be normalised by sharing knowledge.

GRF uses culturally sensitive awareness programmes as one of the tools to promote maternal wellness; further assisting women achieve dignity-based maternal-child care. What are we hoping to do? Ensure that mothers are well-in- formed about pregnancy-related challenges, resulting in happy, and healthy childbirths.
