VICE ADMIRAL SRIKANT COMMANDANT NDC INAUGURATES INSTALLATION OF TORPEDOES AT DALHOUSIE PUBLIC SCHOOL

Vice Admiral Srikant, AVSM, Commandant of the National Defence College New Delhi on Saturday inaugurated the installation of Torpedoes (Heavy & Light) at the Dalhousie Public School in Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh.   

The Admiral in his speech admired ‘Beeji’s Park’ which he said has been conceived as a ‘Tribute to all Mothers’ who contribute to National Security by sending their brave sons and daughters to the Armed Forces. This ‘Park’ he said is the only one of its type in India and perhaps the world where platforms and weapons of all three services are displayed in school campus .

*Dhillon’s grand father Dr. Diwan Singh Kalepani who was martyred by Japanese in Andman & Nicobar Islands and his father-in-law Madan Singh who was the leader of the Naval Mutiny of 1946 are house hold names in Punjab.*The Admiral while interacting with the students and staff of the school appreciated the general discipline and ethos of the school. He motivated the children to join the Defence Forces and be the leaders of tomorrow. 

 He greatly appreciated the  leadership and vision of Capt. Dhillon the Chairman & Director of the school for such a unique and noble idea which is motivating local youths to join armed forces and also educating and enlighting visiting tourists about sacrifices made by Indian Forces for saving motherland .This place has been developed as new tourist attraction  in hill station further enhancing  the tourism footfall in the region .

This very attractive and well kept park has a MIG-21 Fighter Aircraft that was presented by the former Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne. Two surface to Air Pichora Missiles, presented by Air Chief Marshal Raha. A Battle Tank, T-55 of Russian Origin which had the blessings of the former Army Chief, Gen Vij. 

Admiral Srikant presented a model of  a ‘Scorpene’ a state of the art submarine to the school. Also on display is a huge anchor which was presented by the former Chief Controller of Logistics of the Indian Navy, Vice Admiral Jaywant Korde (Retd.). The park has jeep mounted 106 mm RCL Guns and many more smaller armaments.  

The present Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC during his visit to the school on its 46th Founders’ not only inaugurated the ‘Beeji’s Park’ but also presented to DPS two Torpedoes. Besides, these defence trophies the Eastern Naval Command presented a huge model of the latest Frigate that is pride of the Indian Navy. The school has named the Frigate as INS Madan Singh, who was one of the two leaders of the Naval Mutiny of 1946. The Indian Navy, a few years back also named a warship auxiliary after his name.  

Beeji’s Park is indeed the pride of Dalhousie and is a great source of inspiration for the students of this township. For the visiting tourists and visitors it’s a hot photo spot.
