In thebiggest ever seizure of stolen laptops in Delhi, 193 stolen laptops have beenrecovered by the team of PS Kalkaji, South-East Districtstored in an office at Nehru Place for resale purpose. In a major success, in02 separate incidents, the staff of PS Kalkaji has arrested two persons namely(1) Pankhil Grover Age 27 yrs, (2) Ishwer @ Vishal Age 22 Yrs forbuying stolen laptops from thieves and recovered 192 laptops from theirpossession. In another incident, a member of Gulel Gang namely (3) Saheb Ali@ Rahul, 20 years, was arrested and a stolen laptop was recovered from hispossession. With the arrest of accused persons, 22 cases of theft have beensolved.

Chinmoy Biswal, IPS Deputy Commissioner of Police South-East District,Delhi, said, on05.06.19, Complainant Shri Ishant Arora reported that someone has stolen hislaptop bag containing an apple laptop & Charger, Power bank, drivinglicense, wallet, debit and credit cards and other accessories from his car whenit was parked at Krishna Market, Kalkaji by breaking his car’s glass. Accordingly,an e-FIR Vide no.000930/19 u/s 379 IPC was registered at PS Kalkaji andinvestigation was taken up.

Keeping in view of the gravity of such cases and risein these incidents, a dedicated team led by SHO/Insp. Atul Kumar comprising of Insp.Sarvesh Kumar ATO/ Kalkaji, SI Rakesh Sharma, ASI Jitender Kundu, ASI JitenderKumar, HC Ashok, Ct Sanju, Ct Baldev, Ct. Vishwas, Ct Narender and Ct. Ramavtarwas constituted under the supervision of Sh. Govind Sharma, ACP/ Kalkaji to nabthe accused persons. 

Resale through Online( resale) shopping portal

The team worked relentlessly and analysed the patternof crime and monitored the criminals having similar modus operandi. The teamcollected information of all such incidents which occurred in recent past and collectedthe CCTV footages. The details of criminals of same modus operandi werecollected and analysed the pattern to dispose off the stolen laptops. It wasnoticed by the team in most of cases Apple laptops were sold on various onlinesites like OLX, Quicker etc. Their hard work pays rich dividend when teamnoticed the stolen apple laptop was displayed over OLX site for sale with samedescription.

The advertisement was displayed from one office at Nehru place. The seller was contacted over phone and negotiated to purchaselaptop and rate was fixed. Police team sent a decoy customer and trap was laid.The team apprehended the accused Ishwar @ Vishal with stolen laptop. AccusedIshwer @ Vishal led to the shop of one Pankhil Grover at Nehru Place fromwhere he had taken this laptop to sell it further. Shop of Pankhil Grover wasraided at Shakuntla building, Nehru Place and he was arrested from there. 191more stolen laptops were recovered at his instance.

Interrogation and Modus operandi

Accusedpersons were interrogated at length and they disclosed that they were running ashop at Nehru Place market and were in the business of buying and selling ofold & used laptops. Accused persons further disclosed that they havepurchased these stolen laptops from one Bablu & Deepak and from othervulnerable sellers at Nehru Place Market. Accused Pankhil Grover stated thatBablu & Deepak alongwith their associates used to steal these laptops fromparked cars by breaking their glass. Accused persons used to buy the stolenlaptops from thieves at 10 % of the market price and further used to disposethem to genuine buyers at 60-80% market price rate as they were mostly highprice new branded laptops.

At the instance of accused persons total 192 stolenlaptops have been recovered from their shops. The accused persons used to disposeoff the stolen laptops on various websites like Quikr, Olx at high price.Accused persons also used to supply the stolen laptops at various parts ofIndia like Chandigarh, Chennai, UP west and other parts of India to other respectivedealers.

In furtherance to their disclosure statement raidswere conducted at the hideout of Deepak, Bablu and his associates.

On 21.06.19 one case was reported at PS Kalkajiwherein complainant Bharat Sardana R/o Nangal Raya, New Delhi reported that someonehas stolen his laptop bag from his car by breaking its glass while it wasparked near Mcdonald at Krishna Market, Kalkaji. Accordingly, a case wasregistered and investigation was taken up.

During investigation of that case, police teamgathered information about the accused person and arrested one Saheb Ali fromhis rented house at Sangam Vihar with motorcycle used in the crime. Cash Rs.18,000/- and stolen laptop were also recovered from the accused. He disclosedthat he along with his associates Deepak and Madan has committed many incidentsof laptop theft in the area in recent past by breaking the glass of parkedcars. They used “GULEL” and ball bearing goli to break the glass of car. Theyused to sell the stolen laptops to one “Bablu” who in further sold them toPankhil Grover at Nehru Place. 

Further investigation is in progress and recovered laptops are being connected. Public persons who were victim of theft oflaptops/laptop bags from their vehicle are further requested to kindly contactat PS Kalkaji.

Recoveries :One R15 Yamaha M/cycle, 193 stolen laptops, Gulel and ball bearing goli,  Rs. 18000/- cash

Profile of accused persons:

*Pankhil Grover S/o Naresh Grover Age 27 yrs is a permanent residentof H. No.52, New Colony Palwal (HR). He run a shop of mobile reparing and sell, urchase of old laptops in Nehru place, New Delhi for last 05 years. He iseducated up to 12th class. He has no previous involvement. 

*Ishwer @ Vishal S/o Naterpal is a resident of Gali number 12, Harkesh Colony, Pala ,Haryana,Age :22 yrs and is educated up to 10 th class. He is partner of Pankhil Groverand in the businesses of sale purchase of old laptops. He also arrested firsttime. 

*Saheb Ali @ Rahul S/o Hazi Sanaullahage 20 yrs is a resident of B104, gali no. Ali Village , Badarpur , new delhiand is a desperate Gullel Master. He is illiterate and falls in the bad companyof Deepak kumar and started committing crime. He has 06 previousinvolvements.
