August 13, 2019 09:42 PM

Prof. R. K. Sinha, Director CSIO informed that Conventional microscopes are widely available and being used by medical experts for various diagnostic decision making. However, the constraint for such microscopes are limited field of view in any sample study and the expert need to move the sample to view multiple field of views before doing any subjective evaluation. Digital slide scanners are available to acquire whole slide image of the sample under study

Microscope is the needed for diagnostic evaluation in many diseases. Being second largest population in the world, India needs larger coverage of economical medical devices. To address this need, CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh has launched a portable microscope that can acquire multiple field of views to create a bigger perspective of the sample under study. In the figure below shows the prototype of the developed system, having a blood smear slide observed with 10X eyepiece and 10X objective. Zoomed region shows the control interface.

Dr. Suman Tewari the developer of technology said that the system also has image analytics software for blood cell classification, which is deployed with the system as a toolbox.

Prof. R. K. Sinha, Director CSIO informed that Conventional microscopes are widely available and being used by medical experts for various diagnostic decision making. However, the constraint for such microscopes are limited field of view in any sample study and the expert need to move the sample to view multiple field of views before doing any subjective evaluation. Digital slide scanners are available to acquire whole slide image of the sample under study. However, cost of such system and maintenance limits the wide availability of such system so this system is to reach different parts of the country for providing cost-effective digital pathology solution.

The Transfer of Technology and Non Disclosure agreement was signed by Dr. Surender Saini, Head BIPP on behalf of CSIR-CSIO and Mr. Dinesh Koka, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder on behalf of Inventigen Technologies Private Limited, Hyderabad Telangana
