Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that Pakistan government decision to levy a fee of twenty dollars from each pilgrim crossing over to Pak to pay obeisance through the Kartarpur Corridor is a shameful act. He said this amounted to commercializing the piety of the pilgrims and booking profit from them. “There is not a single example anywhere in the world of any government taking fee from devotees to pay obeisance at a place of worship. This should be revoked immediately, he demanded.

He slammed Congress saying that ‘dal badlus’ had been given pride of place in the Congress government by being appointed as Advisors and said this reflected the moral bankruptcy of the Congress party.

Talking to newsmen during Jalalabad visit today, the SAD President said “What advice will political turn coats give the chief minister except for teaching how to change from one party to another to reap political dividends?” he asked.

Badal said the very fact that the Congress government had appointed six Advisors recently and one earlier indicated that it was facing a revolt from within and was set to explode. “The government is trying to avoid this by offering inducements to the legislators but it has resulted in even more disgruntlement with those left out demanding similar posts”.

He said the total number of political appointees in the government had risen to 27 with there being 13 Advisors, four Political Secretaries, nine OSDs and one Chief Principal Secretary. “Despite this the people are not getting justice. Farmers have not been given crop damage awards for the last two years and their sugarcane dues are still to be paid. Youth have been betrayed with the ghar ghar naukari promise existing only on paper. Unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 per month promised to youth has not been given. All social welfare schemes have been stopped in the name of audits. Scheduled caste students are not being paid scholarship and girl students are not getting cycles”.

Stating all this was due to the complete indifference towards the people and governance by chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the SAD President said “the CM refuses to meet the people and listen to their grievances. This is leading to even law and order problems at some places with people venting out their frustration”.
