GREEN DIWALI - CLEAN DIWALI: PROF. SWEEN ADVISED THE STUDENTS TO ‘ADOPT A PLANT’

Faculty of Department of Life Long Learning & Extension, Panjab University visited Village Kaimbwala and Dhanas on 21-22nd October, 2019 to create awareness about harmful effects of burning crackers and how to celebrate Diwali so that it has minimum harmful effects on this.

Dr. Kang Chairperson of the Department, advised the students not to burn traditional crackers but use green, environment friendly crackers which create less air and noise pollution. Air Pollution level after Diwali goes much higher than the normal permissible limits. Noise levels on Diwali might also surpass limits, causing diseases and problems for old, sick and animals. He also advised the students to be careful about the burn and eye injuries. To keep water bucket ready and to wear lose, cotton clothes only.

Prof. Sween advised the students to ‘adopt a plant’ in the school premises so that harmful effects of air & noise pollution are taken care of. Environment safety should be prime concern for everyone. She also said that school should adopt “Environment Friendly Policies.” She said that Air is essential for life. No doubt it is free, but we need to take care of it, if we want to survive on earth for long.
