A 3-day training programme on “Women Empowerment- A step towards gender equality” organized by Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Punjab (MGSIPA) concluded at Fazilka today. It was sponsored by Department of Personnel and Training, Govt. of India. About 30 govt functionaries from different departments participated.

Deputy Commissioner Manpreet Singh Chhatwal, while presiding over the valedictory session said that empowerment of women is one of the key components to ensure gender equality and achieving the goal of a healthy and harmonious society. He said that measures to ensure women empowerment should include proper recognition of woman’s contribution to society, bridging gender pay gap and effective participation of women in every field of life especially democratic system. He said that more job opportunities should be made available to women in Government and private sector with leadership role to make them economically self-reliant.

Jarnail Singh, Regional Project Director, Bathinda said that MGSIPA organizes about 300 programmes every year on various subjects including women empowerment, gender equality, RTI, Sevottam, Drug abuse prevention, Induction training programme for new Government employees etc. in all districts of Punjab.

Mandeep Singh, Coordinator, Regional Centre, Bathinda and other subject experts delivered lectures on different themes during this 3-day training programme.
