December 13, 2019 09:39 PM

Chandigarh (Subhash Jindal)

The Punjab and Haryana High Court took suomotu cognizance of an attack on three lawyers at an eatery in Panchkula and a Full Bench had called for a report on the status of investigation after asserting that the matter was of serious nature. Subsequently, periodic status reports were submitted before the Hon’ble Court and the challan was also presented before the Learned Trial Court.  However, the investigation so conducted was neither satisfactory nor complete.

The main grievance of the Bar Association pertained to the deletion of section 307 IPC against the accused persons. The Hon’ble Court issued appropriate directions for ensuring that the investigation was fair. Consequently, a supplementary challan has been filed before the Ld. Trial Court and section 307 IPC has now been added against several persons as mentioned in the status report.

The complainants have also been granted liberty to pursue the appropriate legal remedies as per law.

Mr. Rohit Sud, Honorary Secretary . Punjab & Haryana High Court , Bar Association, Chandigarh, said on behalf of all the members of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, the office bearers would like to convey their gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Justice and all the other Judges of this Hon’ble High Court who took suomotu cognizance of the incident in which the members of the Bar Association had been assaulted in Panchkula.
