Botany department of GGDSD College conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Exploring Nature & Herbarium Preparation’ today. The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Environment & Forests, Chandigarh Administration as a part of awareness activities. About 70 students along with faculty members attended the workshop.

 Mr. Gurdev Singh, senior technician, Panjab University, Chandigarh, gave hands-on-training to students on collection of local plants, method of drying, preservation using preservatives and mounting them on herbarium sheets. The preserved plants are later arranged according to their respective families as per the classification system in chronological order and stored in herbarium files or wooden cupboards and maintained for current and future studies. Such plant specimens serve as reference material for identification, nomenclature and systematic classification of plants. 

Principal Dr. Balraj Thapar and Dr. Sajeev Soni, Dean Sciences, lauded the efforts of botany department for conducting such informative technical training on plant systematic.
