The Department of English, GGDSD College, staged a play, ‘Merchant of Venice’, today. ‘Merchant of Venice’, is one of the masterpieces of William Shakespeare. The play was attended by more than 800 people including distinguished members of GGDSD College Society, teaching and non-teaching staff.

 The five-act romantic-comedy talks about the values of friendship, justice and mercy. The college enacted the play in one go for 50 minutes with a mix of traditional English theatre techniques and mime.

General Secretary, GGDSD College Society, Dr Anirudh Joshi congratulated the team for outstanding performance and reemphasized the importance of Shakespearean opus in the present world. He said, “The acting of the students was very realistic and the dialogues were impressive.”

The college’s Principal Dr Balraj Thapar applauded the efforts put in by the students. He said, “We encourage students to participate in literature actively and stage play every year to enhance their latent acting skills.”

The play was directed by Mr Pranav Kapil, Assistant Professor, Department of English GGDSD College.
