CHANDIGARH POLICE CRACK DOWN ON CURFEW OFFENDERS, 360 ROUNDED UP, 29 BOOKED AND 13 VEHICLES IMPOUNDED

In view to prevent the spread of COVID 19 (Corona Virus) curfew has been imposed in UT, Chandigarh. The Chandigarh Police is fully committed to extend full cooperation and to remain on toe 24 X 7. It is effective from 24.03.2020 at 00.00 hours and for the proper implementation of curfew Chandigarh Police deployed forces at 38 outer barriers (manned/unmanned), police station wise patrolling teams formed and internal nakas installed to maintain law and order and implementation of Curfew.

Cricket Stadium Sector 16 and Sports Complex Manimajra have been ear-marked as temporary jails in UT Chandigarh and will be active today from 8 PM onwards 24X7. Facility for pregnant women/senior citizens will be available at No. 112 for any medical assistance including visits to Hospitals. 

During implementation, 360 persons were rounded up found roaming in their respective areas, 192 vehicles were detained out of which 13 were impounded and 29 persons booked under section 188 IPC in 23 cases for disobeying Curfew orders. During checking, one person was nabbed while roaming in his car Land Cruiser in inner market of Sector 9 and during patrolling, police party signaled him to stop but he did not stop.

Police party prevailed over him and found him under influence of liquor. He was booked for disobeying the orders of DM issued vide order no. DM/MA/2020/7293 dated 23.03.2020. A case under Section 188, 269, 270 IPC & 185 MV Act registered at PS 03 against Rajesh Kumar S/o Sh. Gugan Ram R/o Village Sewa Rajgarh, Distt. Churu, Rajasthan, aged 35 years.

Citizens are being persuaded to remain in house through PA system by concerned SHOs and PCR during curfew and also being made aware of availability of essential services and goods. Moreover, Cricket Stadium Sector 16 and Sports Complex Manimajra have been ear-marked as temporary jails in UT Chandigarh and will be active today from 8 PM onwards 24X7.
