Abohar/Ahmedabad:  At a time when the most important duty of each citizen is to maintain social distancing to help contain the spread of the coronavirus, BAPS has responded to government requests for assistance to care for the needy.

Throughout Gujarat, BAPS sadhus and volunteers are serving in various ways, as requested by local administration.

In Silvassa, around 40 youths went to shops and street vendors to inform them about the precautions and safety measures necessary during this critical period.

In Ahmedabad, every morning around 2,000 kg of fresh vegetables, such as cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, etc., are brought in from Prantij, Mahemdavad, Nenpur and other nearby areas to the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Shahibaug. Here, sadhus and volunteers daily pack the fresh vegetables into biodegradable bags while observing appropriate hygiene standards. The packs, each providing a 2-day supply for a family of four, are then distributed free to the needy as specified by the municipal corporation.

In Gondal, the BAPS Mandir has provided hot meals to the needy.

BAPS centers in the UK and USA have also provided assistance to local authorities as required.

Under the guidance and inspiration of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha will continue to provide such assistance to help the needy during this challenging period, a spokesman said.
