GOVERNMENT TO USE STATE DISASTER RESPONSE FUND TO FEED PEOPLE DURING LOCKDOWN

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur told here today that as per Government of India guidelines, the funds released under State Disaster Response Fund may now be utilized for provision of food for people stranded in lockdown, which was used earlier for disaster related activities and the related instructions have been passed to district administration.

He said that district administrations are helping the stranded people and it is being ensured that proper arrangements of food and shelter are done for them. Similarly, arrangements have been made in Himachal Bhawan Chandigarh and Delhi for the students and working people of Himachal Pradesh who are living in Chandigarh or Delhi and cannot come back home due to lockdown. 

He said that to ensure necessary arrangements for migrant labourers stranded due to lockdown, district wise integrated report has been prepared. He said that a total of 6,943 labourers came in different villages of Himachal Pradesh after February 15, 2020 but no one was found to carry symptoms of infection due to Covid-19. He said that free ration has been distributed to 9,629 migrant laborers and staying arrangements by different Panchayats have been done for 1,735 migrant laborers.

Jai Ram Thakur said that on Monday, supply of various essential items has been received in border districts of the State. Today, 19,534 cylinders of LPG in 75 vehicles, 1,40,450 liter of diesel / petrol in 19 vehicles, 40,200 liter milk in 129 vehicles, more than 2,132 tonne of grocery items and vegetables, 1400 packets of bread and 400 trays of eggs in 646 vehicles, 243 tonne of medicines, sanitizer and masks in 78 vehicles and more than 242 tonne of fodder in 61 vehicles have been supplied in six border districts of the state, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, Sirmaur, Solan and Una. 

Ration and medical facilities are being provided to the people to minimize their movement. He said that home delivery of goods through volunteers has been started to help people remain home.  He told that government is providing every possible assistance to the people during the lockdown due to COVID-19. He said that to maintain adequate supply of commodities, transportation of all goods without distinction of essential and non-essential has been allowed in the State.
