DELHI POLICE SEIZED 70 CARTONS OF ILLICIT LIQUOR IN A TEMPO CAMOUFLAGED WITH RAW VEGETABLES

In view of pandemic Covid-19 Corona virus, lockdown has been implemented in the Outer North District. Pickets have been installed and patrolling teams have been deployed.

As per the directions of PHQ, the basic essential services like food, milk vegetables have been exempted of the lock down. Outer North District is sharing 21 bordering points with Sonepat District of Haryana. Farmers from Haryana used to come to Azadpur Mandi daily to sell vegetables in Tempos/trucks. All these vehicles are permitted to cross the bordering/checking pickets after checking.

A specific tip was received that vehicles laden with vegetables are used to hide and transporting the illicit liquor. On that tip, a trap was laid near animal dispensary Bhalswa dairy by beat HC Ramesh and Ct. Umesh. On the basis of secret information about details of the vehicle, the team intercepted a Tempo. On seeing the police team, whose driver and his accomplish succeeded in fleeing away.

The vehicle was checked and found that one layer of raw vegetables was there in the back side of tempo. On removing the layer of vegetables, 70 cartons containing 3360 quarters of illicit liquor were found in the vehicle. 

Mr.Gaurav Sharma, IPS, Dy. Commissioner Of Police Outer North District, Delhi, said,  case under Excise Act has been registered and accused are being traced with the help of registration number of the vehicle. Source of illicit liquor is being verified as lock down is in Haryana also.
