Chandigarh (Subhash Jindal)

Punjab and Haryana High Court grants status quo to Data Entry Operators and Accountants who were under threat of transfer due to rationalization by SMAGRA Sikhia Abhiyan:

In a civil writ petition filed by Ravinder Kaur and 8 other contract based Accountants and Data Entry Operators working under SMAGRA Sikhia Abhiyan, who had been declared surplus through process of rationalization of their posts vide order dated March 4th, 2020, and expressed apprehension that they may be relieved soon, the HC Bench comprising Justice A.G. Masih today issued notice of motion to State of Punjab and Director General of School Education-cum-Project Director, SMAGRA Sikhia Abhiyan, Punjab, SAS Nagar for August 7th, 2020, and also issued interim directions to the effect that ”status quo with regard to the place of posting of the petitioners and similarly placed employees shall be maintained till the next date of hearing keeping in view the prevailing pandemic.”

The petitioners had, inter-alia, submitted that they are young persons, mostly female employees, and many amongst them have very small children, who are quite vulnerable to corona, and if shifted, shall face severe hardship, more so because the stations to which they are being transferred, are at far away places. The petitioners had also challenged the rationalization policy itself on various grounds.
